The star of the modern classic The Garfield Show is a sassy cat.  His main activity is mentally and physically destroying his owner’s dog, Odie.  Between naps and meals of lasagna, Garfield gives us glimpses into a day in the life of his ordinary owner Jon.  He also finds time to package and mail the local town cat to Dubia.

Traditional home life with Jon commonly places Garfield in a moral quandary.  Most episodes place Garfield in situations where he must learn that his actions have consequences.  He gains moral values throughout the series, although his personality does not change.

Their world is strange and full of opportunities.  Garfield’s ordinary life is constantly interrupted by what one would call insane events.  These are now so commonplace that Garfield no longer bats an eye.

The most common of these events, things are never as they seem.  Places that would normally be mundane have insane, chaotic people in them.  A large number of these people pretend to be benevolent.

Garfield has had a large influence on media as a whole.  This is why I feel it is a great example of a modern classic.
