Friedrich Gentz believed that the American Revolution was just because the colonists were protecting their ancient rights. They were in the right according to Gentz, but when it comes to the French Revolution, he thought the opposite because they were abandoning the old. Gentz thought they were going to replace one tyrant with another.

The culture of the 1790s was rife with discussion of natural rights, and they didn't just apply to Frenchmen and Americans. They applied to women. Mary Wollstonecraft believed that women should get the same education as men and the same sports and athletic activities as men. She also believed that relationships between men and women are made by mutual respect, that all healthy relationships should be. Wollstonecraft wanted women to have some of the same basic rights as men, and she succeeded.
