Enlightened absolutism is hypocritical. It is typically a mindset found in leaders of large groups such as kings. People with this mindset act in a tyrant-like manner but have some good traits as well. Some enlightened absolutist kings would do stuff like making religious tolerance more accepted by the people, but only when it was for their own gain too. Let's look at the effects of an enlightened absolutist.

The American colonists and the British government fought a lot due to the actions of the British government. The colonists asked for the same rights, the same as people in the capital, and the British government agreed to that. For a time, they kept up that agreement, but the British government eventually went back on their deal and left the colonists infuriated. Before they took action, they asked what is happening. They did not ask kindly, and that made the British government mad. Parliament said that the colonist's rights were a gift they gave and they could take that gift back as they pleased. There was drastic action on both sides such as the townshend act and New York making British soldiers sleep on the street.
