Does Beowulf glorify violence that is the question we will discuss today. Let us start with Beowulf's fight against Grendel. In this Grendel is a monster that every night attacks the grand hall. He is a monster through and through, but Beowulf showed him the curtesy of a fair fight by not using any weapons and fighting fist to fist. Grendel's mother is a slightly different story.

Grendel's mother only attacked people after her son was killed by Beowulf, so she at least has some family values. She also stole Grendel's arm as a reminder of him. But instead of talking to her Beowulf just attacked Grendel's mother. Yes, Grendel's mother also attacked Beowulf.
